The contributors to this exchange seem to me to be struggling against the stereotyping generated by the personification of “Analytic Social Epistemology.” Whenever a writer attributes “intentions” to ASE, he treats this label for a fuzzy category of persons is if it were itself a person. But I don’t believe any contributor really intends to do this. Common sense language becomes a trap. We all know that those who get put into any such category are quite diverse.
